Don Helow’s background as a business owner and speech communication instructor at UH Manoa laid the foundation for his successful real estate career. Now co-owner and broker-in-charge of Hawaii Sunset Real Estate LLC, Don thrives on meeting his clients’ goals of providing sound advice to real estate investors, creatively marketing properties or assisting a client in their search for the perfect home in paradise.

Don was drawn to Hawaii where he began teaching in the Speech Communication
Department at University of Hawaii, Hilo in 1977 and University of Hawaii Manoa, in 1980. Don also invested in several Oahu properties, which he managed and renovated. A business opportunity took him back to his home state of Florida in 1988, where he successfully ran a company until Hawaii called him back. “Once you get Hawaii in your blood the love affair continues. ‘Hawaii calls’ for me has always been true.”

Don met Nancie Martens, R, his business partner, in 2005. In 2009 they formed
Hawaii Sunset Real Estate, LLC. Don enjoys working in the current market because he knows he can find opportunities for his clients, he enjoys running the numbers and examining market trends to help clients make wise decisions. “I will always explain the pros and cons of any potential property to our clients.”

Don believes his long time connection with the Hawaiian Islands and his Real Estate investments in California, Florida and Hawaii greatly benefits his clients-buyers and sellers alike. Don is married.  Don and Beth self book there travels to get the real flavor of the various cultures . In September and October 2012 Don and Beth  spent three weeks exploring Myanmar ( Burma). Prior adventures to SE Asia found them in Thailand,Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos. In September of 2013 Don and his wife Beth visit ten cities in three countries starting with three days in Bangkok Thailand.Then on to Hui Hin, the islands of Ko Tao, Ko Samui, Phuket and Phi Phi. The cities of Malaysia included Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.  Then on  to  the countries of Brunei and Singapore.

They also enjoy tennis, , scuba, yoga and swimming in the ocean.
